Lessons from the Pickleball Court
A lifelong tennis player, this year curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to check out Pickleball. In doing so, I joined the growing ranks of Americans flocking to this up and coming sport. It has been a welcome change for me and so much fun to challenge myself in new ways.
In just a few short months, Pickleball has already taught me lessons that apply to all aspects of life including one’s career journey. Below are five of the conclusions that I have drawn:
Trying something new builds skills, confidence, and friendships.
Striking a balance between aggressiveness and patience is a key to success.
Never underestimate the effectiveness of dinking. Yes, you read that correctly. In Pickleball, the dink is an integral weapon in a player’s arsenal. Think of it this way: when a rally is getting out of hand, hit the reset button with a dink and allow yourself to regain control.
Know your strengths and play to them.
Have fun and enjoy the ride.
Remember as well that there is a right time for everything. If Pickleball is not for you, consider what other activity will fill your cup. Likewise what career will make you feel the most satisfied?
